A focused group of graduate students committed to providing a support network for women pursuing advanced degrees in engineering or computer science.
We Work Hard To:
Foster a support network for graduate women in engineering and computer science
Provide personal, professional, and leadership development opportunities for graduate women in engineering and computer science
Serve as mentors to undergraduate SWE members, especially in education about graduate school, fellowships, and research experiences
Promote graduate involvement in SWE at the Society level by staying current with the Graduate Focus Interest Group and the Women in Academia Committee
Maintain a symbiotic relationship with the WEP Faculty Committee at UT
Promote opportunities to mentor through the GLUE and GURU programs
About Graduate SWE at UT Austin
The Society of Women Engineers Graduate Division at the University of Texas at Austin was started in the Fall of 2008 by Anne Silverman and Prinda Wanakule in response to the lack of events tailored to graduate women in engineering and computer science. The committee provides a support network for graduate women in engineering and computer science as well as personal, professional, and leadership development opportunities.
The committee also serves as mentors to UT’s undergraduate SWE Section and maintains strong relationships with several complementary committees and programs at UT, including the UT Women in Engineering Program Faculty Committee, the SWE Women in Academia Committee, and the SWE Graduate Focus Interest Group. Together we contribute to creating a strong community of women in the engineering and computer sciences.
